About Us
Constitutionmaking.org is produced by the Comparative Constitutions Project, a project of scholars committed to assisting constitutional design, in collaboration with the United States Institute of Peace. The Comparative Constitutions Project collects and analyzes data on the characteristics of constitutions worldwide, and has provided the analysis and constitutional texts on this site. The goal of the site is to make these and other resources available to those involved in constitutional design.
Users can access information in three ways. The Reports collect summary data on trends in constitutional design, as well as sample provisions, organized by topical area. The collection of reports is continuously expanding with a new report added each week. The Repository tab leads to a collection of constitutional texts, both historical and contemporary, gathered from our own translated texts as well as other sources in the public domain. Users can search the text for keywords or browse the collection. The Blog contains commentary from scholars and drafters regarding the challenges arising from ongoing cases of constitutional reform and insights from research on the topic.
The website is supported by the United States Institute for Peace, an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by Congress. Its goals are to help prevent and resolve violent international conflicts, promote post-conflict stability and development, and increase conflict management capacity, tools, and intellectual capital worldwide. Thanks also to the Cline Center for Democracy and the National Science Foundation, Award No. SES-0648288 for financial support.
